  • Annual Comprehensive Eye Exams: An annual comprehensive eye examination is a fairly complicated series of tests that not only checks your eye sight, but also neurological function, eye pressure, eye muscle coordination and health of the external and internal eye structures.
  • Standard and Special Contact Lens Fittings and Evaluations: If you wear contact lenses, an annual eye exam and contact lens evaluation is necessary. Don’t give your doctor a hard time about having to come in once a year for your contact lens examination. There are very good reasons why this is common practice. Besides making sure your prescription is up-to-date, eye doctors check the health of the eye, the curvature of the cornea and inspect the eye for microscopic complications related to wearing a contact lens. Abnormal blood vessel growth related to a lack of oxygen to the cornea is another thing that your eye doctor may check for at your annual contact lens examination. Remember, contact lenses are medical devices regulated by the FDA.
  • Pupil Dilation and Retnial Opthalmoscopy: A standard procedure necessary to determine if the eyes are normal and healthy. Dilation helps to detect glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic and hypertensive retinal changes as well. Most of these conditions cannot be detected without dilation. Dilating drops enlarge the pupil of the eye so that the doctor can see the retina, optic nerve head, the blood vessels and structures at the back of the eye fully and without obstruction.  We recommend this procedure every two years and in many cases every year.
  • Visual Field Threshold Test/Screening and Analysis: can assist us with early detection of glaucoma, retinal problems, neurological diseases (such as brain tumors and optic nerve disease), and enable us to better diagnose causes of headaches, migraines, or vertigo.
